Virginia Museum of Fine Arts
Everybody’s Irish VMFA’s 2007 3rd Thursdays season kicks off March 15 with a salute to St. Paddy’s Day. 3rd Thursdays is presented on the third Thursday of each month from 6 to 9 pm and features themed events centered on music, art, tours, food and specialty drinks.
Doing the Bunny Thing Our 6th annual Egg-cellent Family Event for ages 3-12 accompanied by an adult is Saturday, March 31, from 10 am to noon. Bring your basket and meet Hoppity Rabbit for an egg hunt. Enjoy entertainment, hare-raising stories, spring art projects, outdoor games, and a guided gallery walk to see the Fabergé imperial Easter eggs
Winning Shorts VMFA presents the Thomas Edison Black Maria Film and Video Festival at VCU’s Grace Street Theater, 934 W. Grace St., at 8 pm Thursday, March 22. The festival takes its name from Thomas Edison's original film studio, which he called the Black Maria. You’ll see a series of shorts culled from hundreds of entries for this year's competition.
Party Time Friends of Art will present its Mardi Gras party Saturday, March 10, at 7:30 pm at ArtWorks. Enjoy music by Yo Momma’s Brass Band, Cajun cuisine, and an open bar of beer, wine and hurricanes. Attire is creative casual with costume prizes. Proceeds will benefit the Children’s Gallery in the expanded VMFA. (Age 21 and older only.) Phone 804.340.1405 for tickets.
Teen Topics Paper-pulp sculpture, digital art, wire sculpture, portfolio review and painting with acrylics are topics for Saturdays in the Studio for Teens this month. The two-hour workshops include instruction, materials, a gallery experience and free coffee. The first 10 teens to register are admitted free!
